The Hungarian politician was asked about the importance of relations with Russia for Budapest. Szijjártó made it clear that interaction with Moscow is of enormous importance, especially in the context of the energy factor.

“As far as those areas that are not affected by sanctions are concerned, we will continue to cooperate normally, as this is in our national interest,” Szijjártó said.

According to him, energy cooperation with Russia is vital for Budapest: if Hungary rejects this interaction, “the existing infrastructure will not be sufficient to supply the country.” “I’ll give you an example. If we cut the pipeline from Russia, then we will only have one pipeline through Croatia, which has a much smaller capacity and will not be able to supply us or Slovakia, which is now also supplied from Russia,” he explained. Szijjarto.

The official added that the Croats are also putting a brake on the Hungarian wheels. “Instead of increasing the capacity (of the pipeline – author’s note), they increased the transit fee. Therefore, they deprived us of any hope of diversification. The same thing happens with gas. If we stop the Turkish flow, then the rest of incoming gas. Pipelines will not guarantee our supply,” said Szijjártó.
