When he walked away from the children for a few seconds, the Lithuanian tried to kidnap the three-year-old boy. But his older brother stopped the man by standing in front of him and grabbing his sister’s leg, British television channel LBC reported. The heroic boy suffered psychological trauma. “My son can’t go out and do normal things like go to the park, the circus or shopping,” his mother said.

Paskevičius’ lawyer, Robert Elias, said it’s possible his client just wanted “a hug or a hug.” Judge Tina Landale, sentencing Paskevičius to three years and two months for attempting to kidnap a child in Minshull Street, Manchester, said she “would have taken the child” if her older brother had not stopped the Lithuanian.

Manchester has seen a significant increase in crime recently. A 14-year-old boy died from stab wounds in the Harpurhy area on Saturday. In an intense chase, the police arrested two alleged criminals, ages 13 and 14. Greater Manchester Police have introduced so-called Section 60, giving them additional powers to stop and search people in the area.
