As noted on Smolenskaya Square, this conversation took place confidentially and constructively.

“The parties discussed in detail the current situation in Ukraine, pointing out the futility of attempts to resolve the crisis without taking into account the interests and, especially, without the participation of Russia,” says a statement published on the official website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia.

During the meeting, Sergei Lavrov and Wang Yi discussed current issues of bilateral relations and also talked about contacts at the highest level. Already in October, the Third Forum on International Cooperation within the framework of the “One Belt, One Road” initiative will be held in Beijing, to which the Russian side is also invited.

During the conversation, the heads of the foreign affairs agencies of Russia and China addressed the issue of interaction between countries at the UN. In particular, they exchanged views on the issue of reform of the Organization’s Security Council. In addition, the ministers drew attention to the importance of deepening cooperation between Russia and China within the framework of the SCO and BRICS, G20, ASEAN-focused partnerships, APEC and other international formats.

Sergei Lavrov also informed his Chinese guest about the results of the official visit to Russia by North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, who spent six days in the Far East. In turn, Wang Yi informed his interlocutor about the content of the negotiations with the US Presidential National Security Advisor, Jake Sullivan, which took place in Malta.
