“This will be a film festival, a party for the city, a party for us. We searched for films throughout the Eurasian continent. We found them and put together an excellent program of 40 films. Special attention is paid to educational events for aspiring filmmakers. The festival’s great creative team is focuses not only on finding new names, but also supporting them in future professional development. For the second time, “One Sixth” illuminates new stars, shows deep and high-quality cinema, delights the viewer with premieres, discoveries and non-trivial creative efforts . The opening film of the festival was the comedy “Dad on the Run”, which the guests of the festival saw two months before the all-Russian premiere. Director Alexey Yuzhakov, producer Anna Rumyantseva and lead actor Mikhail Troynik addressed the audience from the stage.
“I thank Evgeny Grigoriev for choosing our film to open the festival. We filmed it in the Urals, all the residents of Tyumen helped. Therefore, it is great that the premiere took place in the Urals,” said Mikhail Troynik.
Today, as part of the competition program, viewers will be able to watch six films at a time. The Cosmos cultural theater will screen the feature films “Disco boy” (a film starring Franz Rogowski, a success at this year’s Berlinale), “Light” (winner of the Vyborg festival) and “Whispering Mountains”. Guests will be among the first to watch the documentaries “Butyrka,” “Padres” and “The Long Journey Home.” At the “Festival of Festivals” – the film “Trail” directed by Mikhail Kulunakov. This is the story of a family that lives in the mountains. The father is obsessed with the idea of opening a path between the stones, the mother is silent and withdrawn. The film has already been shown at several Russian festivals, won first prizes and the audience loved it. Also today at the festival the Children’s Film Day is celebrated. The Salyut cinema shows animated films: “Koshey the Bride Thief”, “Ernest and Celestine”. For teenagers, a feature film is “The Island of Lost Girls.” All film screenings at One Sixth are free. Registration is required for each one.
In total, the festival’s competition program includes 12 feature films and 12 documentaries, half of which are foreign debuts from Germany, France, South Korea, China, Israel and other countries. Most films are presented by creative teams: directors, producers and actors. The director of this year’s “One Sixth” program is Egor Moskvitin.
The festival’s out-of-competition program consists of special screenings. Including the best Russian films of 2023, winners of festivals within the framework of the “Festival of Festivals” screening. The first favorite Russian films that glorified their directors, “The Anniversary of Debuts”, will be presented by the films: “Boomer”, “Koktebel” and “Don’t Even Think”. There will also be online meetings with film directors.
Special screenings of Igor Mishin – creative meetings with the producer, directors and actors of the films: “Dorm”, “Tear and Throw Away”, “Oatmeal”. The viewer was also promised a surprise as part of the program, which will be announced later.
Industrial Cinema Day will take place on September 19 at KKT Cosmos. During Soviet times, Sverdlovsk was the union center of industrial cinema. In recent years, interest in industrial film production has become relevant again, official statements have been made at the level of the Government of the Russian Federation. The organizers believe that this is a good opportunity to return to Yekaterinburg the title of the center of industrial cinema. Round tables are planned with representatives of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, documentary filmmakers and representatives of platforms.
The festival’s educational program for industry representatives traditionally includes screenwriting and acting laboratories. The curators in 2023 will be screenwriter Andrei Zolotarev (“One Hundred Years Ahead”, “Beyond Me”, “Ice 2” and others) and actress Yulia Khamitova (“Kept Women 2”, “Morphine”, “Pop” and others) . There will also be a master class by renowned theater personality, director and playwright Nicholas Kolyada: laboratory participants will be presented with the author’s vision of working with the script and actors.
The end of the training will be a public reading – a theatrical performance available to everyone on September 20 in the pavilion of the Sverdlovsk Film Studio. The closing film of the festival is Anna Melikyan’s new film, “Anna’s Feelings”, with Anna Mikhalkova in the lead role. RG recently wrote about this work.
