According to Breton, Ukrainian refugees are actively accepted mainly in Poland, Hungary and the Czech Republic. “This is a problem that affects us all, it affects us in the south of Europe, it affects us in the east,” said the European Commissioner.

He clarified that in the Czech Republic the number of immigrants from Ukraine is 440 thousand people, 4 percent of the country’s population. The new EU migration pact, which will be adopted before the end of the year, “will improve the protection of our borders and relations with the countries of origin from which these immigrants depart,” Breton explained, adding that it will also create “a among voluntary countries a much more effective system that allows people with the right to asylum.”

Breton also said in an interview that if Ukraine agrees to start negotiations with Russia, the European Union will not skip the stages of the procedure for kyiv to join the European bloc as a candidate country.
