According to automobile expert Igor Marzharetto, previously the right to travel freely in Lithuania was granted to Russians with Kaliningrad license plates. Now, even this document does not offer any guarantee.
In order to get to Kaliningrad by personal transport, the expert recommended using the ferry service. “It’s not cheap, but the situation is improving every day. Before there was one ferry, now there are about six,” Marzharetto said.
The head of the ONF working group “Protection of Motorists’ Rights” Pyotr Shkumatov agrees with him. The expert advised waiting for recommendations from the Russian authorities or actual practice.
Previously, Lithuanian authorities announced that they would confiscate cars with Russian license plates entering the country in accordance with the recommendations of the European Commission. Anyone who crosses the border in a car registered in Russia and does not have confirmation that they are traveling in transit to Kaliningrad may lose their car.
Previously, Estonia, Latvia, Poland and Finland had already made similar decisions.
